Are you glad you're gay...

IF you're not happy, you don't have to be...

If you struggle with same-sex attraction and you say to yourself, “I don’t want to be gay,” just know that you are not alone. Many people have struggled with similar thoughts and emotions, and thousands testify to salvation. There is hope and healing to be found in Jesus Christ. You are not a prisoner in this sin.

  1. Accept God’s Design: Begin by understanding and accepting God’s design for sexuality. In Genesis 1:27 we read: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” God’s intention for sexuality is that it be expressed within the boundaries of marriage between one man and one woman. (See also Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6)
  2. Seek God’s Guidance: Turn to God in prayer and seek His guidance in understanding your feelings and desires. Psalm 32:8 assures us: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Trust in God’s wisdom and ask Him to reveal His plan for your life. The Holy Spirit is always available, more than willing and able to do anything if man only approaches Him.

There are powerful promises in the word that God will help if we ask.

  1. Find Identity in Christ: Your identity is not determined by your sexual orientation, but by your relationship with Jesus Christ. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 we are told: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” As a believer in Christ, you are a new creature, redeemed and loved by God. Any feelings and habits can be taken captive and made obedient to Christ 2 Corinthians 10:1-10.
  2. Embrace God’s Love: No matter what struggle you may face, remember that God’s love and help is always available to everyone, in Christ Jesus. Hear how beautifully John puts it: John 6:35-37 ” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” God’s love quenches those fleshly desires and fully fulfils any need, and He longs to draw you close to Him.
  3. Seek Support: Surround yourself with a community of believers who can offer support, encouragement and accountability. Galatians 6:2 reminds us: “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Find trusted friends, mentors, or Christian counsellors who can walk with you on your journey. Apart from the Holy Spirit, there are always people in God’s church who have been where you have been and will walk together in your struggle.

As you struggle with your feelings and desires, remember that God is with you every step of the way. He sees your struggle and He offers mercy, forgiveness and healing through Jesus Christ. Surrender your heart to Him, trust in His love, and let Him lead you to the rich life He has planned for you.

The more I know and understand God, the easier I will be able to live in victory through HIM. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:16

So you don’t have to fight this battle alone – Christ Jesus will hear you and help you, and He has already prepared plenty of other people to support you and walk with you. Use the means that God provides and experience the victory that HE promises.
