Sex and marriage
Sex is meant for marriage!
In a world where the boundaries of morality are often very dim, the topic of sex before marriage is a sensitive and important one to address. As Christians, we believe that God’s plan for sexuality is both beautiful and holy, and meant to be lived out within the context of marriage between a natural man and a natural woman.
Sexual intimacy is a gift from God, and is meant to [1] glorify God, [2] strengthen the bond between man and woman and [3] also create new life within the security and commitment of marriage. Sex outside of marriage is deadly on several levels: It leads to the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases and infections. Emotionally, this can lead to feelings of guilt, shame and remorse, as well as the erosion of trust and respect in the future marriage relationship. Spiritually, it can bring separation between God and man and thus hinder our ability to experience His fullness of love and grace.
The biggest crises, however, is that immorality always leads to callousness and lack of conscience – that is, what God has made precious and beautiful falls into animalistic interaction with an inactive conscience and a hardened heart. That is why God gives very clear guidelines about sexual purity and the sanctity of marriage. Hebrews 13:4 reminds us: “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.”
We are called to honour God with our bodies and flee from sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:10-20). Verse 9 and 10 says, “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”
If you find yourself tempted to engage in premarital sex, know that you are not alone. God promises deliverance from every temptation. Seek support from trusted friends, mentors, or Christian counsellors who can guide you and hold you accountable. Turn to God in prayer, for He offers forgiveness, healing, and strength to resist temptation.
Even if you have already crossed the boundaries of God – admit your sin and ask the Lord for forgiveness and cleansing – but oh it is so much better not to pursue the desires of the flesh – for many there is no turning back.
Remember that God’s plan for sex is rooted in love, respect, and commitment. Wait for the right time and the right person—within the covenant of marriage—to experience the fullness of God’s blessings in sexual intimacy. Be assured God sets these limits for man’s protection not for His gratification. May you honour God’s design for sexuality and experience His abundant grace in every area of your life.
